300 employees by 2030: K&D Landscaping is hiring and embracing new green technology
The landscaping industry has come a long way in recent years, developing new technologies in all areas of the field. However, Justin White, the ambitious 32-year-old CEO of K&D Landscaping, sees many green companies ignoring the opportunities these technologies can offer. His vision is to use it as a way to lead his business towards a richer customer and employee experience.
Katie Dauphin, Maintenance Administrative Coordinator at K&D Landscaping
K&D recently implemented new HR and management software programs in its standard operating procedures. One example is Aspire, a cloud-based business administration software that allows customers to access a portal and get estimates, view the progress of their project, pay their bills, and more. Katie Dauphin, K & D’s Maintenance Management Coordinator, led the implementation of the program and provided some additional insights:
“As a mother of four children, I understand the requirements of running a family and the importance of finding efficiency in daily tasks.”
We estimate our estimates more accurately, can provide clarity about the services we offer our customers, have increased productivity on our maintenance routes and reduced material costs by finding the best possible price. All of these upgrades pass savings on to our customers. “

These new systems are important components in order to support the company’s efforts to become more efficient and customer-friendly, to empower employees and to increase the overall satisfaction of employees and customers. This will also significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
Fernando Duran, Human Resources Manager at K&D Landscaping
With a paperless quote for invoicing and digital paystubs, K&D saves around 400 pages of paper per month (saves trees that can then be planted!). Fernando Duran, the company’s HR manager, excitedly shared:
“The documents of all team members are now stored digitally on the secure platform. Previously, an employee’s personnel file had an average of 25 pages. Now we have reduced this number to less than 5 pages per employee and all documents are easily accessible from anywhere in the mobile application. K & D’s HR department is still finding innovative ways to enhance our employee experience, and these integrations were just the beginning! “
Program irrigation control
Outside of the office, the company recently invested in new technology like advanced excavators and tractors that allow crews to work more efficiently with smaller teams.
They also take great care to conserve water through smart irrigation. White worked out,
“Instead of having to adjust the controllers every month, weather stations and Wi-Fi-enabled models allow automatic adjustment and remote programming options.”
When California gets into an extreme drought again, the ability to adjust water levels by 30-50% on foggy days can really add up over time.

300 employees by 2030: join the K&D family
K&D relies on its newly implemented technology and is making progress, even in times of great economic challenges across the entire county. Almost halfway through 2021, the organization has already hired 25 new team members and plans to continue the trend.
In support of the “300 Employees By 2030” goal, the expansion aims to make K&D a staple for landscaping from Santa Cruz to Monterey and beyond. You want potential candidates to know that K&D is a “target company” where they can grow, develop and build a rewarding career.
K&D is currently looking for several exceptional people to join its growing team. Some of these open positions include an operations manager, commercial appraiser, irrigation manager, irrigation technician, irrigation apprentice, as well as several other supervisors and administrative support. White stated that they are not only considering applications with landscape experience.
We are looking for the best people to join us, those who want to change something, improve themselves and improve their community. Those who want to put their efforts into a bigger cause and want to be part of a team that represents the future of landscaping.
– Justin White
These new positions are aimed at improving the customer experience. Behind the lawnmower, leaf blower and tractor, K & D’s “in-house tool shed” focuses on living the company’s core values and raising the bar, creating positive interactions that customers can see. Unique in the industry, K&D is investing back in the county through its community beautification programs to empower its employees to be part of a greater cause and to help those in need.

Why should you care that K&D is growing?
It is rooted in a common community and a common planet. The larger the landscaping company, the more local jobs are available and the more trees and flowers are planted. The more trees and plants we can grow in the world, the better our air quality, the caliber of the environment and the general homeostasis of the earth.
It is small steps like this that, if we all join in, can lead to big changes. K&D uses technology, hires great people, develops a vision for the future … and gives back to the community in the process. They are a company that you should absolutely visit, not only to remodel your garden, but also possibly a place to develop the next step in your career.
