Samuel C. Kinder, 81, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away peacefully at Steere House in Providence, RI on Monday, May 24, 2021.

He was the beloved husband of Janice S. (Dean) children.

He was born in Providence to the late Joseph C. and Shirley (Newman) children. He is survived by his devoted children: daughter Elizabeth D. Kinder and husband Zura Grdzelishvili; Daughter Charlotte F. Ricci and husband Ben Ricci; and son James C. Children. He was blessed to be Elena F. Ricci’s grandfather. Sam was the brother of Peter N. Kinder of Florida, the late Karen K. Borchert of Nantucket, Joseph C. Kinder Jr. of NYC, and Harriet L. Kinder of Bristol. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sam was a supporting graduate of Providence Country Day and the URI. He was a founding member of the URI rowing team. Sam was the 3rd generation owner of Samuel Kinder and Brother Landscaping from Bristol and added an extensive kindergarten to the family business.

As a true Bristolian, he enjoyed sailing, fishing, July 4th and fish house punch! Sam has been recognized by the East Bay Association for the Arts, Narragansett Electric Co., and Blithewold for his service to the local community. He was a board member of Linden Place and for decades he was an arborist for the city of Bristol.

Funeral details are yet to be determined.
