April 15 – Landscaping company opens retail greenhouse | Newssun

SOUTH MILFORD – It’s getting greener and greener at Lake Country Landscaping on the north side of South Milford.

Truckloads of trees, shrubs, bushes and plants are slowly coming into the store, filling up the company’s property and greenhouse. In April, business owner Ben Martin said a landscaping business is starting to bloom.

Lake Country is just off SR 3 north of the CR 700S intersection and opened a retail store this year. Martin said he made the decision to enter the landscaping retail market last year after the number of visitors to his company increased who wanted to buy the same materials he had in stock for his landscaping work. It only makes sense to get into retail, he said.

“We are in a good location just off State Road 3 and our store has good traffic,” Martin said. “We had a lot of people stopping by and asking if they could buy plants and materials from us, the things we use in our work. We saw real demand. “

Martin, a lifelong LaGrange County resident who grew up on Adams Lake, is a retired high school history and economics teacher. Martin said the landscaping company somehow found him, and he liked it so much that he switched careers.

Martin initially worked for a landscaper and decided to buy the company when the previous owner decided to move on. It’s been his passion ever since.

Martin and his coworkers work in landscaping in northeast Indiana, mostly landscaping for new home construction. But he said he couldn’t ignore demand from people who stopped by his shop.

Now trucks are rolling into Martin’s property, which is filled with plants, trees, shrubs, and other materials needed this time of year. His greenhouse is gradually filling up with thousands of annuals and perennials, as well as individually potted vegetable and herb plants.

Landscaping, Martin said, is often more complicated and detailed than many believe, and sometimes it boils down to the art of finding the right plant for the right place. Martin said that he and his staff can help there too because everyone has a real passion for the company.

Lake Country Landscaping is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In May, Lake Country is also open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lake Country Landscaping is hosting a grand opening ceremony on May 2nd.
