Dh205 million Expo 2020 Dubai landscaping project completed

More than 20,000 trees have been planted to create a spectacular green belt around the site of Expo 2020 Dubai as part of a mega project of Dh 205 million.

Dubai City Council announced Thursday that a number of ambitious landscape projects had been completed while the countdown continues to the opening of the global event on October 1st.

The eye-catching green spaces cover an area of more than two million square meters, including the extension of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, Expo Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street towards Expo 2020 Dubai.

More than four million seedlings have been planted on the roads leading to the venue, and another two million have been planted on the extensive grounds of Dubai South itself.

“The City of Dubai uses the latest technology and vertical farming methods to implement their landscaping projects across the city,” said Dawoud Al Hajri, General Director of the City of Dubai.

“Our plan is to expand our green space campaign to all areas in Dubai, including open spaces, streets and public parks. By expanding the green spaces, we will be able to achieve sustainability in the horticultural sector, improve air quality and improve spirituality and physical health of the community. “

Excitement for expo

Al Hajri said the agency is keen to improve the area leading to Expo 2020 Dubai as part of the emirate’s grand plans to host a memorable six-month show.

As part of the project, the city of Dubai extended 58 km of the main irrigation lines and 234 km of the sub-lines. In addition, three main pumping stations and three concrete tanks were built to store irrigation water. The planting around the exhibition center took place over a length of approx. 21 km.

Green dream becomes reality

The project included major attractions near the Expo 2020 Dubai site, including the entrance to the Dubai Parks, on a total area of 177,123 m².

The steel landscape work extended over an area of around 109,000 m². In addition, the main irrigation lines were extended by 10.3 km and the secondary lines by 60.1 km. In addition, a pumping station with a concrete tank for irrigation water with a value of around 40 million Dh was built.
