DIY Landscaping: Do it Right the First Time

While some travel budgets are being turned into renovation budgets this year, others are considering remodeling their yard to create an outdoor oasis at home.

Jodie Mantei, the home center division manager at Prairie Sky Coop, said that some people might be DIY savvy, whether by experience or having loaded up landscaping shows over the past 13 months, a lot of people don’t know where to start.

“We have a garden full of landscaping blocks, patio stones and different types of fire pits that you can put in your yard. The possibilities are endless, but once we show you things it will pop out and you will get a feel for it pretty quickly, what you’re interested in, “he said.

If you’ve been looking forward to making some landscaping changes to your property this year and you’re less experienced, you may have wondered if you should dig into things like landscaping or fancy Allan blocks.

There is a key, he said, to making sure you are not wasting your precious time, energy, or money. Mantei said it was best to do your research and not be afraid to search the brains of him and his staff at the home center to make sure you get it right the first time.

“It’s never really a good idea to cut corners at the beginning. Your best bet is to do your research or speak to someone who can help you get started and point you in the right direction so you don’t miss a critical step you’re taking.” We’ll have to go back and correct later and redo some of your work. “

“It’ll end up costing you more money if you don’t get it right right away.”

Mantei said it was always best to start with the basics and grow from there to what would best suit your garden.

“Start with the lawn edging, landscaping, maybe underground sprinklers, and next, maybe plan some raised beds with stacked stones or build a fancy fire pit in the back yard by laying rubber mulch,” he described.

Whatever your plans, the aces are in their places and there’s no shortage of ways to learn more about how to make your yard your own vacation spot.
