Israeli Colonist Cut Many Olive Trees, Demolish Retaining Walls, Near Salfit – – IMEMC News
On Tuesday, a group of fanatical Israeli colonists crouching illegally in Palestinian territories in the towns of Deir Istiya and Qarawat Bani Hassan, west of Salfit town in the central West Bank, broke into Palestinian orchards before cutting down at least 30 olive trees and demolishing retaining walls.
Local resident Omar Samara said the colonists uprooted at least 30 olive trees belonging to the sons of Yousef Hasan Souf and the late Hussein Souf’s family, in addition to Hasan Jabi Sour and ‘Aisha Qassem.
Samara added that in addition to cutting down the trees, the colonists also demolished retaining walls to build a motorcycle racing track near their illegal colony.
The colonists also set up forests and installed a room on land that belonged to the family of the late Aref Souf.
The area is subject to constant violations by Israel, including attacks against the Palestinian peasants, especially as the colonists seek to expand their illegal settlement by annexing more private Palestinian territories.
Aref Souf’s window, Roweida Souf, said the attack on their land was not the first as the colonists had previously cut down and uprooted many olive trees and annexed 20 dunams of their 60 dunams orchard.
“We are not allowed to enter our own orchards without prior coordination,” she added. “If we are allowed to reach our country, we only have a few days to work and rehabilitate them.”
