Landscaping companies keep busy despite a rainy spring

NIXA, Mon. (KY3) –

The boom in the real estate market is keeping landscaping companies on their toes, but the rain has caused setbacks on some projects.

Modern Earth in Nixa specializes in landscape, hardscape, lighting and drainage. Owner Colt Smith said some of their projects were put on hold due to several rainy days. Smith says the crews are unable to glue or sort hardscape projects due to the wet conditions. Smith says drainage work is required because of the heavy rain.

Another problem for landscapers and other outdoor workers is the high demand for supplies. Smith opened a store a few months ago, but some items are in short supply.

“We had a lot of issues with the availability of patio furniture, grilled products, grills and the like in our new business,” said Smith. “We ordered a lot of things that we will wait for a while.”

If you’re interested in getting landscaping jobs done, Smith says, don’t wait, find a reputable company and let them add you to the list. Smith doesn’t think the business boom will end anytime soon.

“With so many people moving into the area and so many houses being sold and so many houses under construction,” said Smith. “It’s been great for all types of construction work including landscaping, landscaping companies are very busy right now.”

Like many industries, landscaping is also looking for workers. Smith says his company has 50% fewer employees than normal.
