“We have been in business for over 60 years. We have qualified landscape architects on the team, which means that we know outside areas and know what works, ”said Jeff Skelton, landscape architect and project manager at Frank Otte Landscape and Design Group. Starting a new project in your home, indoors or outdoors, can be overwhelming. Therefore, it is extremely important to be able to trust the people who will complete this project. The Frank Otte Landscape and Design Group has been in business for over 60 years and can be that trustworthy group for you.
They are a full service design-build company that offers everything from landscaping to installation and construction to irrigation and fencing. “We do pretty much anything that has to do with the outdoors,” explained Skelton. Frank Otte originally started as a kindergarten and garden center in 1963. However, after Otte realized that landscaping was a booming business, he added a division within the company that focused on landscaping, according to the Frank Otte website. After seeing the landscaping take off, Otte decided to make it a completely stand-alone unit. In 1999 the Frank Otte Landscape and Design Group was born. Skelton has been in the landscaping business for 38 years. After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in landscape architecture, he started working for Frank Otte in July 1983 and has been there ever since.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Frank Otte’s team has seen a significant increase in people who want to renovate their outdoor areas. Skelton stated that they saw an even bigger increase this year than they did last year. “Patios and swimming pools are huge right now. With everyone stuck at home, we see a lot of people doing more activities around the house. They want us to create outdoor spaces with outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, and create greens and spaces for their children to play, ”Skelton said.
Something I’ve heard a lot over the past few months has to do with “taking the outdoors indoors,” and Skelton emphasized that point for me, too. Customers want to set up three-season rooms so they can gather together safely when needed. I think the pandemic made us all appreciate nature more. I know I definitely appreciated my daily walks more than I used to.
The design process starts with a Frank Otte Landscape and Design Group customer describing what they want and the team then takes it from there. “You give us the ‘I want’ list and then we develop a landscape plan. With this plan, we determine what the project will cost to install, ”explained Skelton. “We can then take that budget price and divide it into any number of phases for implementing the project so that we don’t have to do everything at once.” The ability and willingness to split the phases of the project gives the client the flexibility to determine when the entire project will be completed. After all, any type of renovation can be expensive. It’s about creating a unique project for each customer, but also creating what the customer wants and what makes the most sense for their property. If you’re interested in her work, head to her Middletown office and stroll the gardens, patios, walkways, and waterfalls that are dotted around the property. It’s never the wrong time to start a new project, especially if it brings happiness and green to your life.
