Lincoln hotel evacuated after landscaping crews hit gas line

LINCOLN, RI (WLNE) – A Residence Inn on the George Washington Highway in Lincoln was briefly evacuated after a gas line broke Monday afternoon.

Sergeant Walter Ptaszek of the Lincoln Police Department told ABC6 crews at the scene that a landscaping company hit a gas meter with a lawn mower, causing the line to come loose.

The fire alarm went off and the hotel was evacuated when the gas was turned off.

No injuries were reported.

At 5:22 p.m., ABC6 crews saw the hotel guests being allowed back into the building.
