Local landscaping companies see Spring surge in business
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – If you are planning a large landscaping project for your home and want to hire a professional, be ready to be patient.
Many local businesses are currently overwhelmed by the demand.
“Usually spring is full, but we’ve seen a big boom this year,” said George Androney, owner of Grasshopper Design.
Androney has been in the business for 15 years, primarily servicing homes in Old Hickory, Hermitage, and Hendersonville.
“The biggest thing we’re seeing this year that we don’t normally see is people wanting a competitive makeover of their landscape,” said Androney. “They want to pull everything out and put everything new in.”
While Androney’s crews continue to juggle the extra calls, other companies in Middle Tennessee see the same situation.
“Everyone I’ve spoken to, we’re all in the same kind of boat,” said Androney. “We’re all pretty busy and we’ll get through to you, it’s just a matter of time.”
According to a statewide survey by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), 60 percent of landscaping companies see revenues exceed expectations before COVID, and 62 percent of lawn care companies say they have exceeded sales projections.
Androney said business has been stable since the pandemic started, but he’s seeing a bigger surge in new customers this year. He believes that if people continue to spend more time at home, they will turn their attention to home improvement projects.
“People have been home for a year thinking about what they can do about the house. The landscaping is one of those things.”
Androney and other local businesses hope the trend will continue.
“I’d love to see more of that,” said Androney. “If this is the new trend, that would be great.”
