McKinney awarded $310K for landscaping improvements

McKinney receives recognition and $ 310,000 in recognition of its continued focus on community improvement.

Keep Texas Beautiful has recognized the city as a recipient of the Governor’s 2021 Community Achievement Award (GCAA) for Outstanding Community Improvement. Ten communities across Texas will share $ 2 million landscape funding from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), according to a press release.

McKinney will receive $ 310,000 for landscaping projects along local rights of way.

Cities are judged on seven environmental and community improvement areas: public awareness and outreach, environmental education, community beautification and improvement, waste prevention and remediation, waste disposal, waste law and enforcement of illegal dumping.

The city received the Governor’s Community Achievement Award back in 2016.
