Parking lot wins award for landscaping | News

The Genesis Award for Commercial Landscaping was given to the City of Ponchatoula for their parking lot on the northeast corner of North Sixth and West Hickory Streets, according to Marilyn Wright, chairwoman of Gardenettes.

Mayor Bob Zabbia and Rhonda Sheridan accepted for the city.

The area that was formerly the location of the First Guaranty Bank now has 90 parking spaces surrounded by brick and iron fences.

The city has planted magnolia trees and colorful bedding plants, and has strategically placed benches for everyone. An electric vehicle charging station is another feature of the property.

The opposite side of the street is designed similarly, which makes the block a very attractive place for City Hall and the police, Wright said.

Gardenettes are members of the District VI Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., the Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and the National Garden Clubs.
