Sheriff’s Detectives Break Up Landscaping Equipment Theft Ring Based in Sleepy Hollow – Kane County Connects
Kane County Sheriff’s Office detectives have teamed up with state and local law enforcement agencies to unravel a landscaping equipment theft ring and find deadly weapons and drugs.
According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, the sheriff’s detectives, along with investigators from the Mokena Police Department and the Illinois State Police SWAT team, carried out a warrant on the 900 block of Willow Lane in Sleepy Hollow after an investigation into a theft ring for landscaping equipment.
Investigators secured more than 40 allegedly stolen items and several attached lockers in the area at the residence. The detectives also seized several firearms, one of which was converted into a fully automatic weapon, ammunition, a ballistic vest, and seven grams of cocaine.
The resident, Pedro Evaristo, 21, was arrested at the house and charged with five Class X crimes of possession of the fully automatic firearm, possession of a ballistic vest by a felon, and three cases of armed violence. Evaristo was also charged with eight other offenses related to possession of firearms and ammunition and a Class 4 crime of possession of cocaine.
Charges against Evaristo are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and has the right to a fair trial, in which it is for the state to establish beyond any doubt that he is guilty.
