Tree planting and landscaping set to bring beauty of nature to busy South Shields junction
Trees and shrubs are due to be planted on the corner of Crossgate and Westoe Road as part of a South Tyneside Council plan to improve the empty space previously occupied by real estate agent PDQ Homes in Charlotte Terrace.
Landscaping and paving are also planned to enhance the area adjacent to The Cask Lounge bar.
Cages have been set up to keep the site safe, and stone-edged raised beds can be seen on the site across from South Shields City Hall with a pathway between them.

Landscaping work on the corner of the Cask Lounge in Crossgate.
It’s the latest in a series of landscaping projects that have changed the face of downtown South Shields over the past few years.
The former PDQ Homes office building was demolished in early 2018 as part of the second phase of the South Shields 365 regeneration master plan to make way for new downtown bus routes needed for the new South Shields Transport Interchange.
A South Tyneside Council spokeswoman said: “After work has been done to improve the intersection between Crossgate and Westoe Road to accommodate new bus routes into the city center, landscaping is under way, including planting and paving of trees and shrubbery to create improved space create.”
